    GENERAL FUNCTION

    Provides direct supervision to overall operation of adventure program and challenge course counselors. Ensures the supervision and safety of campers at all times.

    Responsibilities

    1. Supervises campers and staff using the Challenge Course. Ensures that all staff are accounting for campers and safety at all times.
    2. Ensures that safety inspections and element use logs are being properly filled out and maintained.
    3. Plans, schedules, and facilitates program activities that are developmentally appropriate and which promote camper skill and character development, e.g. village and cabin activities and skill periods.
    4. Maintains safety and cleanliness standards. Takes special note of individual camper/staff health needs or concerns on a daily basis. Shares cleaning duties with fellow staff.
    5. Communicates personal or camper/staff needs to supervisor in a timely manner.
    6. Maintains equipment in sound and safe order.
    7. Ensures proper documentation of challenge course usage, including (but not limited to) ropes use logs, equipment checks, and more.
    8. Attends meeting and trainings.
    9. Maintains current ACCT certification for self and attends annual professional development opportunities.
    10. Partners with Camp Colman's full time Challenge Course Manager to address any safety or procedural concerns that may arise.
    11. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, program and equipment inspection written documentation, and emergencies.
    12. Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    1. 19 years of age or older.
    2. Current state approved first aid certification.
    3. Current state approved CPR certification.
    4. One or more years of college preferred.
    5. Current Wilderness First Responder strongly preferred. Documented knowledge of challenge courses and current safety standards and practices.
    6. Demonstrate working knowledge of belaying, rappelling, knots, and rescue techniques.
    7. Ability to participate in activities that involve rigorous physical activity in an outdoor setting.
