    Job Summary

    This position is immediately for the winter youth basketball season for kids who are in K - 9th grade. Officials will officiate at games by following the YMCA's league rules/guidelines to ensure the safety of the participants. Officials may act as a "third coach" on the court for younger age groups, where they will verbally coach the kids on the court through various situations during game play, while officiating the game.

    Responsibilities

    1. Officiates at games.
    2. Clean up equipment/general clean up of gym and/or field after games.
    3. Reports equipment problems.
    4. Attends staff meetings and required trainings.
    5. May set up playing area.
    6. May do scorekeeping.

    Qualifications

    1. Current state approved first aid certification preferred.*
    2. Current state approved CPR certification preferred.*
    3. Up-to-date knowledge of YMCA guidelines designated for the league.
    4. Experience in refereeing preferred.
    5. Knowledge of safety issues related to sport and facility.
    6. Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
    7. Prefer knowledge of, and pervious experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation etc.). Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.

    *May be required as determined by branch.
