    Plans and teaches skills and activities for youth/families that are developmentally appropriate and enriching including but not limited to cheering, dance and tumbling.  Develops positive relationships including providing prompt and courteous service to members, participants and guests.


    1. Plans and implements culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate activities within the curriculum in accordance with the Youth Development goals of the YMCA. 
    2. Supervises a group of children to ensure their health and safety and to provide for a positive experience for each child.
    3. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency procedures.
    4. Professionally engages with parents/guardians to provide pertinent information about their child’s experience and to promote upcoming programs.
    5. Ensures that toys and equipment are clean and safe, set up and stored properly.  Reports equipment problems to supervisor.
    6. Attends staff meetings and training programs as required.
    7. Other duties as assigned.



    1. 18 years of age or older (21 years of age if the position requires driving).
    2. High school education or equivalent.
    3. Ability to plan and initiate culturally relevant and age appropriate games and activities.
    4. Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
    5. Current state approved first-aid certification. *
    6. Current state approved community CPR certification. *

    * At hire, or earliest possible training (but no later than 90 days after employment)

    Current Driver’s License with a minimum of 3 years safe driving experience and a driving record which meets or exceeds YMCA standards.
    Maximum of one minor violation.



    • One year+ previous experience with children and families from diverse backgrounds.
    • 6 months+ experience teaching specified activity/skill hired for.
    • Program lesson planning and instructional skills.  
    • Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.).
    • Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.

    Program participants learn new skills in an enriching and supportive environment.  Member expectations are exceeded resulting in increased retention.
