    Job Summary

    Every day hundreds of children participate in fun and engaging YMCA activities before and after school. Kids U is a set of enrichment classes such as: art, sports, cooking, chess and science. Children sign up for specific classes based on their interests and passions that are led by you. Be part of an amazing team of staff who provide enrichment & recreation activities, teach teamwork and social skills, and support children as they grow and learn. Kids U instructors will be able to teach/coach topics that are fun and interesting to them while also teaching the kids to learn new skills. Looking for applicants who can also drive a mini bus if needed.

     

    Where you’ll work…

    You’ll be based out of one off the 13 branches in our welcoming membership facility that offers programs ranging from health and wellness, to family programs, to child care, to aquatics (access is a staff benefit - swim a few laps before work, take a yoga class, do some laps on the track before you go home, if you like!).  Specifically the Seattle Y has Kids U programs throughout the Seattle area.  The programs are located in Seattle Public Schools and other community buildings.  Programs use classrooms, multipurpose rooms, gyms and outdoor spaces.

    Responsibilities

    1. Plans and implements culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate activities within the curriculum in accordance with the Youth Development goals of the YMCA.
    2. Supervises a group of children to ensure their health and safety and to provide for a positive experience for each child.
    3. May provide guidance to staff/volunteers overseeing the activities of groups of children.
    4. Professionally communicates day-to-day, confidential and evaluative information with parents/guardians.
    5. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency procedures.
    6. Assists in maintaining developmentally appropriate site including appearance, décor and cleanliness of site.
    7. May prepare and serve snacks. Cleans snack area.
    8. Attends staff meetings and trainings as required.
    9. Other duties as assigned.

    Who are you?

    If you're the right candidate for the job, you are excited to spend your afternoons impacting the lives of children.  You thrive on the energy of groups of children and are ready to jump in and lead activities.  You are always stepping up to offer support at the first sign it's needed.  You are comfortable with individual and groups of children, can talk to and partner with parents and other adults, and have an interest in and aptitude for learning new ways to work with kids. You have an eye for quality programing and can build a sense of belonging with the groups you work with. 

    Qualifications

    You should have:

    • 1-2 years’ experience with children; camps, child care, tutoring, nanny, coaching
    • Ability to model and demonstrate Y values; caring, respect, responsibility and honesty
    • Experience planning and implementing group activities

    For positions requiring driving you should be 21 years or older:

    • Current Driver’s License with a minimum 3 years safe driving experience and a driving record which meets or exceeds YMCA standards
    • Maximum one minor violation
    • No speeding violation of more than 20mph over the limit
