    GENERAL FUNCTION

    Oversees the maintenance, cleanliness, repair and security of camp buildings, grounds, and equipment. Manages the construction of assigned capital projects. Schedules and supervises all maintenance personnel. Performs preventative planning for facilities operations.  Responsible for timely budget management.

    Responsibilities

    1. Hires, trains, supervises and evaluates maintenance staff, which includes full and part-time staff.
    2. Participates as a member of the management team for Camping and Outdoor Leadership, establishing priorities and providing leadership and effective management for Camp Colman, including fundraising participation in our Annual Campaign.
    3. Completes new building and remodeling projects, including estimating and purchasing materials, overseeing actual construction and ensuring quality control.
    4. Maintains camp building, grounds and equipment including regular survey of site to identify maintenance and repair needs, development of maintenance plan, purchasing of materials/supplies, coordinating routine maintenance, winterizing and de-winterizing, and landscaping.
    5. Maintains camp vehicles and all marine craft in safe operating condition through inspections, preventive maintenance and prompt repairs.
    6. Maintains roads, gates and general camp security, including inspections, preventive maintenance, removal of debris, and ensuring proper signage.
    7. Operates and maintains potable water and septic systems within the guidelines set forth by the state and county.
    8. Develops appropriate budgets, and monitors and authorizes expenditures to ensure compliance with budgetary guidelines. Specific budgets include maintenance/facilities, vehicles and forestry operating expenses.
    9. Controls site hazards through routine inspections and emergency maintenance.
    10. Coordinates volunteer work projects from start to finish, including initial identification of project, outline of expectations, providing appropriate equipment and overseeing projects as they progress.
    11. Oversees waste management plan of composting, recycling and disposing of all site generated waste.
    12. Ensures that site and facilities meet standards set by the American Camping Association, Washington state health codes and building codes.
    13. Monitors and directs housekeeping duties performed by maintenance and program staff to ensure proper procedures are followed and facilities meet the standard of sanitation and cleanliness.
    14. Oversees facilities operations of key program areas in collaboration with program staff, including the marine touch tank, waterfront dock, ropes course and garden/orchard.

    Qualifications

    1. Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent education/experience.
    2. Five or more years of related experience; requires journeyman skill in construction processes such as framing, finish carpentry, plumbing, electrical, laminate, drywall and concrete work.
    3. Experience in metal work, automotive and diesel mechanics, equipment maintenance, operation of heavy equipment, farming, animal care, gardening, crop harvesting and logging is essential.
    4. Ability to transport materials and travel to various locations required.
    5. First Aid/CPR certifications required.
    6. Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
