  • Overview



    The Young Adult Services Programs Director is responsible for leading and managing the majority of our programs and services for youth and young adults impacted by homelessness, violence, and/or the justice system for the Accelerator YMCA. This position will report to the Senior Director of Programs and work closely with the Clinical Directors of our Behavioral Health Programs and Foster Care Programs leading and ensuring the Accelerator Y’s programmatic vision, philosophy, and approach are carried out by staff and volunteers in order to meet our mission of accelerating young people’s ability to build safe, successful and happy lives. In partnership with the other Accelerator directors, the Young Adult Services Programs Director will be a leader in the integration and continuous improvement of service delivery to our young adult and family participants across the Accelerator Y, as well as across the Y of Greater Seattle and among our partner agencies and funders in King County.

    1. Directs and manages the development, operations and growth of assigned youth and young adult programs for the Accelerator Y.
    2. Supervises program directors and ensures programs and staff are aligned and working together to promote the execution of organizational goals and plans.
    3. Collaborates with Executive Director, Senior Director of Programs, and Leadership Team on integrating programs and service delivery to youth, young adults, and families across the branch as it relates to the strategic and programmatic direction of the organization in alignment with the strategic plan, agency vision, mission, and values.
    4. Actively participates in the branch’s Strategic Planning processes.
    5. Thoroughly comprehends and regularly monitors for contract compliance and quality assurance for all contracts and agreements for designated programs
    6. Creates a culture of learning, providing inspiring leadership, coaching and continuous improvement throughout the program areas. 
    7. Promotes regular and ongoing opportunities for staff and young people to give feedback on program and services.
    8. Promotes the agency’s diversity, inclusion and equity initiatives, and develop and grow an equitable culture within Accelerator Y.
    9. Leads and cultivates a team of high performing directors and direct service staff with a strategic focus on recruitment, training, and retention strategies.
    10. Ensures that all program activities operate within the Y’s bounds of fiscal stewardship and consistent operation within the Y’s values.
    11. Provides consultation and support to program directors and direct service staff during crises.
    12. Demonstrates strong communication skills and positive interaction with colleagues, participants, funders, partners, and the greater King County community at large.
    13. Performs all other duties as assigned.


    Required Qualifications


    1. Bachelor’s Degree in related social services field.
    2. Minimum of five years leadership experience, including program development, leadership development, contract management, and financial management.
    3. At least three years of leadership team facilitation and a proven track record of effective communications with internal and external partners. 
    4. Accomplished project management expertise with proven execution of accomplishing deliverables in a timeline.
    5. Broad knowledge of program areas, funders, community partners.
    6. Fiscal competence by keeping expense-to-revenue ratios in line, and setting and following policies, procedures, and budgets.
    7. Ability to handle multiple projects/tasks and juggle priorities while meeting multiple deadlines.
    8. Ability to use good judgment to make sound decisions and resolve problems.
    9. Ability to maintain confidential information and use discretion.
    10. Ability to gain cooperation of others, work effectively as a member of a team, and ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships in a team-oriented environment.
    11. Ability to work independently.
    12. Or any combination of education, experience and measurable performance which demonstrates the capability to perform the duties of this position.


    Preferred Qualifications

    1. Master’s degree related to non-profit leadership (public administration, social work, business or related field).
    2. Life experience with poverty, child welfare, homelessness, behavioral health, or youth violence and a desire to use that experience to improve the lives of others.
