    GENERAL FUNCTION


    Directs the preparation, documentation, and transmittal of payroll statements, taxes, and payroll deductions for the YMCA of Greater Seattle. Develops payroll accounting controls and procedures. Maintains accurate reporting of federal, state, and related payroll taxes and payments. Tests and implements payroll system upgrades and manages vendor relationship. Interfaces with Human Resources.

    Responsibilities

    PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES




    1. Directs and manages the processing of the Association’s payroll accounting function to meet deadlines for biweekly payroll. Transmits payroll files using HRIS system. Prepares journal entries and check requests related to payroll preparation.



    2. Oversees, processes, and reconciles other payroll functions such as manual checks, void checks, deductions, previous month corrections, contributions, garnishments, etc.



    3. Manages the electronic timekeeping system for the YMCA. Reviews, analyzes, and audits payroll to ensure accuracy.



    4. Reconciles payroll liability accounts each month and investigates discrepancies. Recommends periodic accounting entries including calculations for liability accounts such as Paid Time Off, Workers’ Compensation, and Unemployment.



    5. Prepares and/or reviews quarterly tax returns including 941, Unemployment, and Workers’ Compensation.



    6. Hires, trains, evaluates, manages, and develops assigned payroll team member/s.



    7. Serves as primary lead in managing payroll information systems, including payroll system upgrades. Communicates software changes to appropriate staff.



    8. Keeps abreast of legislative changes to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local requirements. Recommends, implements, and communicates payroll policy changes.



    9. Audits W-2 forms received from payroll provider and ensures W-2 forms are distributed to employees by the federal deadline. Responds to requests for replacement W-2s. Maintains internal records and files of W-2s according to legal retention requirements.



    10. Assists with month-end and year-end closing and processing including the preparation of the monthly financial statements. Assists with the yearly audit, develops financial procedures and policies, and performs statistical reporting and analysis.


    Qualifications

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS



    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent. CPP and/or FPC preferred.

    • Five or more years of experience in automated payroll processing.

    • Strong understanding of all relevant payroll regulations and federal and state requirements.

    • Experience with software packages including Word, Excel, and Access.

    • Proven analytical/conceptual skills required to identify and interpret problems and recommend and implement solutions.

    • Ability to exercise discretion.

    • Ability to speak another language in addition to English preferred.
