    Who are we?

At the Seattle Y, we are an inclusive organization of people with a shared commitment to nurture the potential of youth, promote healthy living, and foster social responsibility.

At the Y, strengthening community is our cause. We work side-by-side with our neighbors throughout King and south Snohomish counties to help kids and families thrive – and apply their positive behaviors and goals at home, school, the workplace, and beyond.

    • 13 branches
    • 2 overnight camps
    • 10 swimming pools
    • More than 200 program sites

    Where you’ll work…

You’ll be based out of one off the 13 branches in our welcoming membership facility that offers programs ranging from health and wellness, to family programs, to child care, to aquatics (access is a staff benefit - swim a few laps before work, take a yoga class, do some laps on the track before you go home, if you like!).  The majority of programs are located in Seattle Public Schools buildings. Programs use classrooms, child care rooms, gyms and outdoor spaces.

The Seattle Y offers a competitive pay range and part time or full time benefit packages, as eligible.

    Responsibilities

    What you’ll be doing…

We are looking for responsible leaders who are excited by the prospect of developing and leading our Elementary Child Care staff. This position will serve on an engaging and dynamic team, playing a key role in ensuring planning and implementation of developmentally appropriate activities and curriculum are provided to the participants. You will oversee the planning and implementation of a safe and quality child care program providing day-to-day support and overall management of the program site. You will supervise and evaluate the staff and volunteers, including hiring and training, maintaining required staff/child ratios and conducting regular staff meetings. You will be an important part of helping maintain professional relationships with families, facility/school personnel, and the community.  You will also be responsible for working with the school staff to ensure that we are supporting their mission through alignment and that we truly are seen as a partner of theirs.  This position will also oversee Discovery Camp this Summer by providing a fun and enriching experience for all kids ages 5-12 years old.

    Who are you?

If you're the right candidate for the job, you love working with and mentoring new staff and are excited to spend your time impacting the lives of children and their families. You can strike a balance between completing administrative tasks and helping others to learn and succeed. You have the ability to oversee a group of children to ensure their health and safety needs are met while continuously providing a positive, enriching experience for each child. You have an eye for quality programming and know how to provide support and a sense of belonging to others in order to generate a program that is successful and enriching for all involved.  We are looking for someone who knows the Central Seattle community and is looking to grow the Y's outreach in the area and to increase programs offered for youth.

    Qualifications

    • Three years or more of experience working with children; camps, child care, tutoring, nanny, etc.
    • One year or more of supervisory experience.
    • High school graduate or equivalent.
    • Have completed forty five college credits in approved school-age credits as specified in the Washington state guidelines for determining related degree and approved credits, or twenty college credits and one hundred clock hours of related community training.
    • Ability to model and demonstrate Y values; caring, respect, responsibility and honesty.
    • Experience planning and implementing group activities.

You'll be a great fit for the Seattle Y and the Child Care Team if you:

    • Thrive in a youth centered environment where all children feel that they belong
    • Are adaptable, and flexible, and like that every day is a little different
    • Are excited to see youth growth and thrive
    • Truly enjoy being of service to others
    • Like being part of a team that cares about one another as people and enjoy working together
    • Want to know that the work you do contributes to building a better, stronger community for all
