    Where you’ll work…

     

    You’ll be based out of one off the 13 branches that offers programs ranging from health and wellness, to family programs, to child care, to aquatics (access is a staff benefit - swim a few laps before work, take a yoga class, do some laps on the track before you go home, if you like!).  Specifically the Seattle Y offers summer camp programs throughout the greater Seattle area.  The programs are located in community parks, schools and other community buildings.  Programs use classrooms, multipurpose rooms, gyms, outdoor spaces and take frequent field trips.

     

     

    The Seattle Y offers a competitive pay range and part time or full time benefit packages, as eligible.

    Responsibilities

    What you’ll be doing…

    Every day hundreds of children participate in fun and engaging YMCA summer day camp programs. Be part of leading an amazing team of staff focused on teaching teamwork and social skills, and support children as they grow and learn. Recreational activities with campers, include but are not limited to, arts and crafts, sports, social recreation, songs, nature hikes, archery, and other games and enrichment activities.

     

    You have the ability to oversee a group of children to ensure their health and safety needs are met while continuously providing a positive enriching experience for each child. Assistant Camp Directors will assist in maintaining required records according to YMCA standards, including attendance records, registration information, accident reports and discipline records. You will plan and implement activities and step in as the lead onsite when the Camp Director is not present.

    If you're the right candidate for the job, you are excited to spend your day impacting the lives of children and staff.  You thrive on the energy of children and are ready to jump in and lead activities.  You are always looking for ways to offer support.  You are comfortable with individual youth and groups of children, can talk to and partner with parents and other adults, and have an interest in and aptitude for learning new ways to work with kids.  You have an eye for quality programming and can build a sense of belonging with the groups you work with.

    Qualifications

    You are 21 years of age or older and should have:

    • 2 years or more of experience with children in a camp setting
    • High school graduate or equivalent.
    • Ability to model and demonstrate Y values; caring, respect, responsibility and honesty
    • Experience planning and implementing group activities
    • 2+ year experience supervising others
