Where you’ll work…

 

You’ll be based out of one off the Matt Griffin branch that offers programs ranging from health and wellness, to family programs, to child care, to aquatics (access is a staff benefit - swim a few laps before work, take a yoga class, do some laps on the track before you go home, if you like!).  Specifically the Seattle Y offers Programs throughout the greater Seattle area.  The programs are located in Seattle Schools using classrooms, multipurpose rooms, gyms, outdoor spaces and take several field trips throughout the summer.

Responsibilities

What you’ll be doing…

 

As an After School Tutor and Activty Leader you will be providing academic support and planning, implementing and developing academic curriculum activities for groups of youth Tyee Highschool. 

 

General Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise, lead, guide and coordinate students throughout program.
  • Offer general homework support and tutoring to students.
  • Plan and implement program in accordance with the goals and policies of the YMCA and Community Alignment plans with Highline Public Schools. 
  • Communicate with, develop, and maintain positive relationships with youth and families. 
  • Maintain ordered arrangement, appearance, decor, cleanliness, and learning environment of program site. 
  • Assist in recruitment of members for the after school program.
  • Communicate needs, concerns, goals and ideas to Supervisor.
  • Providing assistance to support Supervisor and staff as needed, including:
    • Student Sign-in
    • Meal/Snack Coordination
    • Maintaining Attendance/Registration Records
  • Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency procedures. 
  • Represent YMCA at school and community events
  • Attend required staff meetings and trainings as scheduled by Supervisor.
  • Other duties as needed.

Qualifications

You should be 18 years of age and have:

  1. Current state approved first-aid certification. *
  2. Current state approved community CPR certification. *
  3. Experience in working with youth the same age as those to be supervised.
  4. One year of experience or more in program planning preferred.
  5. Knowledge of culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate practices.
  6. Knowledge of Seattle School District Academic Learning Standards for the age group and designated subject area.
  7. Knowledge of core curriculum components of assigned school.
