Coordinates assigned programs and supervises staff in specified areas of Y Total Health/Activate America (i.e. wellness, fitness, Active Older Adults, strength training, youth fitness, etc.). Ensures that programs operate in a quality manner consistent with YMCA guidelines. Acts as a liaison and advocate for Total Health/Activate America. Understands the Health Seeker target market and provides motivational coaching to members participating in ongoing Total Health/Activate America programs.


This position will supervise Cardio and Strength Group Wellness formats.


  1. Administers assigned Y Total Health/Activate America Program area(s) following Association standards and guidelines.
  2. Recruits, trains, and supervises volunteer and paid staff.
  3. Develops special events and seasonal wellness programs for members.
  4. Participates in marketing and retention activities.
  5. Assists with development and management of the department budgets.
  6. Maintains records related to program.
  7. May lead wellness programming, Total Health consultations, off YMCA site programs.
  8. Conducts trainings as needed for volunteer and paid staff.
  9. Plans, facilitates and instructs individuals, groups and/or classes.
  10. Encourages member involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
  11. Recruits volunteers for Total Health/Activate America program involvement.
  12. Conveys basic information on Y Total Health/Activate America program areas.


  1. Current state approved first aid certification.
  2. Current state approved CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification.
  3. Two years or more of college education in a related field or equivalent preferred.
  4. One year or more years of related experience preferred.
  5. YMCA Healthy Lifestyles Principles certification.*
  6. Listen First Level I* and II** training.
  7. Facilitating Groups training.***
  8. Coaching With Care training.***
  9. Supervisor Certificate Series.***
  10. Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
  11. Working knowledge of preventative health and fitness programs and philosophy.
  12. Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.). Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.

*       Within 30 days of employment or at first available training.

***   Within 18-24 months of employment.
