    What you’ll be doing…

    As the Mental Health Counselor for Member Wellbeing at our Auburn and SeaTac YMCA branch locations you will be helping support the wellbeing of individuals and the community. You will provide comprehensive counseling to youth, and their families to meet their social emotional needs to help them develop skills and abilities to be successful in all areas of life. You will help provide additional group training for branch staff and bring in additional resources to address topics and the needs identified within your branch.

You have proven experience using an enhancement model to provide education, training and consultation to others and can effectively build relationships.



    Principle Activities:

    1. Maintains a caseload of assigned clients (Medicaid and non-Medicaid). Assists and partners with clients to succeed in school, job, home, courts, and community settings.
    2. Utilizes evidence based treatment modalities to provide individual and family stabilization services, including crisis prevention and safety planning, parenting skills training, behavior management, de-escalation training and brief counseling and case management.
    3. Develops and implements individual Service plans in partnership with the individual and family that are sensitive to the family’s culture, beliefs and values to address their needs.
    4. Provides consultation and training as appropriate to assist families in articulating personal goals and determining the objectives the family needs to take in order to reach their goals.
    5. Brings in appropriate resources from within the Y or outside organizations as appropriate to address client’s social and emotional needs.
    6. Collaborates effectively with branch staff and other professionals including attending school or community meetings in order to meet the goals of the individuals and families.
    7. Accurately completes all required paperwork in a timely fashion. And, documents activities and interventions in accordance with agency, King County and state requirements.
    8. Reports all critical incidents and adheres to YMCA program policies and procedures.
    9. Maintains a working knowledge of current trends and developments in the mental health field through continuing education and reading relevant materials.
    10. Collaborates with branch staff to identify and provide what is needed i.e. groups, health and wellness activities to address identified needs.
    11. Provides education, consultation and training for branch staff.
    12. Represent and informs staff and membership about Accelerator services.


    You should have:

    • Master’s level advanced knowledge in social work, counseling, or related field.
    • One or more years’ experience providing community-based mental health services to youth and families from a broad range of cultures and social needs.
    • State of Washington Licensed or in the process of gaining licensure: Licensed Mental Health Counselor or Licensed Social Worker
    • Knowledge of and direct experience in crisis intervention and de-escalation, wraparound service delivery, parent skills training, safety planning, and case management.
    • Training and experience in individual, family and group treatment modalities.
    • Ability to work independently with no on-site supervision.
    • Direct experience in determining needed and appropriate allocation of resources allocated.
    • Direct experience in successfully integrating into an organizational setting to work collaboratively with non-therapy staff.
    • Direct experience and proficiency with computers, basic office software and case management/client tracking software.
    • Demonstrated organizational skills with an attention to details, timelines and follow-through.
    • Ability to meet with clients at home and in the community, and to transport clients in a safe and effective manner. (Proof of adequate vehicle insurance is required.)
    • Ability to maintain a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the branch and its members.
    • Current state approved first aid, CPR and HIV/AIDS training certification *
