    You’ll be based out of Camp Orkila, located on the northwest tip of Orcas Island and sits on 280 acres of private beach, preserved forest and open fields. You will be a part of a team that welcomes participants to the outdoor classroom, where learning is by experience and Campers thrive in a caring, supportive community.

    What you’ll be doing…

    The Seattle Y is looking for the right candidate to become a part of our resident camp, food services team. As the First Cook you will act as the lead to team members, assisting with training of staff, and overseeing the daily functions of the kitchen, while maintaining cleanliness and a safe work environment in compliance with food safety regulations. You will assign and supervise daily prep, meal and cleaning duties and in the absence of the Food Services Director will assume administrative duties, stepping in as the “Person in Charge” as required by the County Health Department.

You step up and offer support at the first sign it's needed and feel comfortable offering guidance to others to ensure excellent customer services standards are met. You are someone who works well with others and strives to create positive interactions with those that you work with and the customers you serve.


    You should be 21 years of age or older and have:

    • Current state approved first aid certification.
    • Current state approved CPR certification.
    • Current Washington State Food Handlers Card
    • Solid knowledge of County Health Department food regulations and standards
    • Associates Degree in Culinary arts or four or more years of equivalent experience
    • Two or more years supervisory experience
    • Valid Washington State Drivers Licenses with under two violations
    • Prefer knowledge of, and pervious experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation etc.). Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.
    • Must be willing to work weekends and holidays on regular basis
