Our Healthy Living Department has an opportunity for a Lead Personal Trainer who will provide specialized individual and small group training and assist with development of programs and services to build revenue within personal training. The ideal candidate will understand and enjoy working with diverse communities and have at least 2+ years of practical experience as a fitness, wellness, or personal trainer/instructor, or equivalent. You'll be a great fit for the Northshore Y if you:

  1. Plans and instructs classes or programs in a specialty area. Observes and discusses individual progress with participants.
  2. Develops positive relationships with participants and facilitates relationship building among participants and members. Provides motivational support and guidance.
  3. Increases participant awareness of all healthy lifestyle factors.
  4. Encourages member involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
  5. Attends staff meetings and approved trainings as required. 
  6. Accurately maintains client records and provides support to Healthy Living Director for ongoing audits.
  7. Plans and implements unique health and wellness programs that encourage member participation and retention.
  8. Sets up and takes down class equipment. Reports equipment problems.
  9. Ensures safe and effective classes and training sessions. Responds to, and reports, accidents and incidents.


  1. Current state approved first aid certification.*
  2. Current state approved CPR certification.
  3. High school education or equivalent preferred.
  4. Two or more years experience teaching or practicing in specialized area.
  5. Total Service/Total Health Training**
  6. Ability to lead a class or provide individual service.
  7. Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
  8. Ability to motivate and educate members.
  9. Ability to set up, move and store equipment.
  10. Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.). Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.
  11. Personal Trainer : Nationally recognized certification such as YMCA Fitness Specialist Trainer, YMCA Fitness Testing and Assessment Specialist Trainer, ACSM, ACE, NSCA.
