The BOLD (Boys Outdoor Leadership Development) & GOLD (Girls Outdoor Leadership Development) Program is dedicated to inspiring courage and confidence in diverse groups of adolescent girls and boys through outdoor adventures.  We run, primarily, single gender expeditions and each year we engage over 600 youth on 60-70 different backcountry trips ranging in length from 8 to 22 days in places like the North Cascades, Mt Rainier, Squamish, Smith Rocks and Olympic National Park.  Activities include backpacking, rock climbing, mountaineering, fishing, yoga, art, music, literature, backcountry cooking and goofing off.  Our goal is to increase confidence, courage, emotional intelligence, wonder, and community awareness in participants.   We believe these traits are the foundations of leadership and work to inspire participants to develop their own leadership style.  We prepare young people, from middle school on, to be the next generation of leaders through multicultural experiential education in the natural world. As a member of our Expedition Support Staff your role is to work in collaboration with all the different facets of our program.  You will work closely with our Logistics Coordinator and Course Directors to ensure that the instructors, and through them, the students, are provided with the necessary resources to be successful.  This could be in the form of packing food, repairing equipment, driving, playing games with the youth, or consoling a homesick participant.  Additionally, you will be given the opportunity to work in the field for at least one week with experienced instructors.  This is a great opportunity for folks without the hands on knowledge of working with youth in the outdoors to gain a better understanding and valuable experience in this field.


  1. Primary Responsibilities include:

    • Managing the organization, function, and availability of backpacking, camping, and rock climbing equipment, including clothing, first aid supplies, stoves, backpacks, sleeping bags, and tents
    • Collaborating with staff to pack and prepare all field-going food and equipment
    • Provide support to instructor teams during the issuing and de-issuing of equipment

  3.  Minimum Qualifications:

    • Current Wilderness Medical Certifications (W-EMT, WFR, or WFA) and CPR
    • Clear criminal background check.
    • Driver's license with safe driving record.
    • WA State Food Handlers Permit
    • We strongly recommend all employees within Camping and Outdoor Leadership have the following vaccinations: 1) Tdap 2) MMR 3) Varicella
  4. Dates of Employment: June 11th – September 1st, 2018.


    Hours: 30-40 hours a week, 5 days on, 2 days off


    Compensation: $65/Daily.  Benefits include: access to equipment, pro-deals, professional development opportunities and a YMCA membership.

  1. 18 years of age or older.
  2. Current state approved first aid certification.
  3. Current state approved CPR certification.
  4. High school graduate or equivalent.
  5. One or more years of college preferred.
  6. Ability to participate in activities that involve rigorous activity in an outdoor setting, including, but not limited to hiking, boating, camping and swimming.
