Overview

We are currently hiring Environmental and Outdoor Educational Instructors to work with our Teen Program at the Sammamish Y and at other outdoor locations. We are looking for positive, fun, experienced educators who are excited to help facilitate leadership, communication, outdoor and teamwork skills as well as deliver environmental-science based curriculum.

Schedule:

This On-Call position works with staff on an as needed basis on weekdays and weekends

Typical day 8:00-4:00pm

 

Responsibilities

PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES

  1. Oversees and directs program development and delivery to support YMCA objectives, in using the Odyssey III Challenge Course.
  2. Provides staff leadership to supervise and train Odyssey Technicians.
  3. Maintains the upkeep, maintenance, and monitoring of all equipment and facilities. Conducts required checks on all equipment and ensures the safety of all participants. Maintains required records.
  4. Develops age appropriate experiential learning curriculums for diverse user groups on the Odyssey III Challenge Course.
  5. Makes decisions related to the welfare, health and safety of all participants, staff and volunteers. Ensures that all safety rules and policies are adhered to. Corrects safety hazards.

Qualifications

  • 21 years of age or older.
  • Two or more seasons of program experience.
  • Three or more years of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Current state approved first-aid certification.*
  • Current state approved CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification.*
  • Knowledge of culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Knowledge of program curriculum design.
  • Demonstrated skill in supervising staff and volunteers.
  • Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.). Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful

 

*At hire, or before working the Adventure Program (but no later than 90 days after employment.)
