Who are we?

Concord International Elementary is a unique school within Seattle Public Schools. Offering a dual language program, students are able to learn content in both English and Spanish. As a neighborhood school, we are dedicated to providing the best education opportunities to the families located in our South Park community.

 

The Community Learning Center partners with the YMCA and offers before & after school programs for students that fall below grade level. In order to meet the needs of these students, our extended learning program looks for unique ways to accommodate different learning styles. Through community partnerships, we are able to bring in different areas of expertise that address the importance of education for our future.

 

 

Where you’ll work…

 

Our Community Learning Center is located at Concord Intl. Elementary in the South Park neigborhood, just south of Downtown Seattle.

 

 

Responsibilities

What you’ll be doing…

 

The roles for our intsructors will vary day to day. Although we will continue to offer homework assistance, it will not be a main focus during our program. In order to supplement in-school learning, we are aligning our education goals and offering extra-curricular activities. This diverse way of learning will include STEM, art, theatre, music, etc., while always centering around reading, writing and math components.

 

There is also a large opportunity to engage in community building by helping increase communication between staff and families. As an instructor, you will have the opportunity to participate in classrooms in order to align lessons learned during the school day with curriculum that is implemented before and after school.

 

 

Principle Activities:

  • Developing and implementing appropriate enrichment classes for assigned grade levels.
  • Preparing classrooms for daily activities and collaborating with academic teachers and teacher’s assistants to ensure that objectives are reached.
  • Adhering to all YMCA and school district professional expectations and compliance issues.
  • Creating a positive, achievement-oriented, organized and engaging learning environment.
  • Communicates with, develops, and maintains positive relationships with youth and families.
  • Provides day-to-day leadership to staff and volunteers.

You have a track record of being able to develop and implement quality programming and know how to provide support and a sense of belonging to others.

Qualifications

You should be 18 years of age and have:

  1. Current state approved first-aid certification. *
  2. Current state approved community CPR certification. *
  3. Experience in working with youth the same age as those to be supervised.
  4. One year of experience or more in program planning preferred.
  5. Knowledge of culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate practices.
  6. Knowledge of Seattle School District Academic Learning Standards for the age group and designated subject area.
  7. Knowledge of core curriculum components of assigned school.
