Where you’ll work…

 

You’ll be based out of one off the 13 branches that offers programs ranging from health and wellness, to family programs, to child care, to aquatics (access is a staff benefit - swim a few laps before work, take a yoga class, do some laps on the track before you go home, if you like!). Specifically the Seattle Y offers Programs throughout the greater Seattle area. The youth centers that you'll be working in are located in Kent at three different King County Housing Authority sites using classrooms, multipurpose rooms, gyms, outdoor spaces and take several field trips throughout the summer.

Responsibilities

What you’ll be doing…

 

As an Enrichment Instructor you will be planning, implementing and developing academic and athletic curriculum activities for groups of youth at three different youth centers in Kent. Working on a team of educators and YMCA staff to help determine the academic, athletic and enrichment focus of your classes. You will co-lead Small Group classes consisting of enrichment activities that focus on relationship building, leadership, team sports and fun.

 

Principle Activities:

  • Developing and implementing appropriate enrichment classes for middle and high school teens.
  • Preparing classrooms and gym for daily activities and collaborating with other enrichment instructors to ensure that objectives are reached.
  • Adhering to all YMCA, youth center and school district professional expectations and compliance issues.
  • Creating a positive, achievement-oriented, organized and engaging learning environment.
  • Communicates with, develops, and maintains positive relationships with youth and families.
  • Provides day-to-day leadership to teens, service accountability, outreach and collaboration efforts with staff and service partners.

You have a track record of being able to develop and implement quality programming and know how to provide support and a sense of belonging to others.

Qualifications

You should be 18 years of age and have:

  1. Current state approved first-aid certification. *
  2. Current state approved community CPR certification. *
  3. Experience in working with youth the same age as those to be supervised.
  4. One year of experience or more in program planning preferred.
  5. Knowledge of culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate practices.
  6. Knowledge of Seattle School District Academic Learning Standards for the age group and designated subject area.
  7. Knowledge of core curriculum components of assigned school.
