More about the position:

Assistant Directors provide leadership across all of Camp Orkila's summer programs. Assistant Director responsibilities include coaching and supervising staff, working with campers, managing the day to day operations of Camp Orkila, and assiting in problem solving as unique and challenging situations arise. Previous experience working with large groups, or managing others in a professional setting is required. Assistant Directors are supervised by a Summer Program Director and perform other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  1. Supervises and develops staff, program areas and campers as assigned.
  2. Increases camper and staff awareness of the 4 core values: respect, responsibility, caring, and honesty through camp programs and modeling of behavior.
  3. Enforces safety and health regulations and follows emergency procedures as outlined.
  4. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
  5. Informs Summer Camp Director of ethical considerations, issues or potential parental concerns that affect the experience of Orkila campers or staff.
  6. Assists Summer Program Directors in design and implementation of Summer Camp Program.
  7. Schedules and monitors time off for staff.
  8. Provides and communicates schedules as needed for kitchen, office, and staff.
  9. Attends staff meetings and trainings.
  10. Provides verbal and written evaluations for staff as assigned.
  11. Attends and facilitates Director's meeting.
  12. Facilitates parent phone calls and arrangements for campers who are being sent home. Informs office of all camper cabin changes and camper departures.
  13. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  1. Must be 21 years old.
  2. Current certifications in CPR, First Aid and Lifeguard with documentation available upon Hiring/arrival.
  3. Must have 2 years camping experience or equivalent.
  4. High school graduate or equivalent.
  5. One or more years of college preferred.
  6. Ability to participate in activities that involve rigorous activity in an outdoor setting, including, but not limited to hiking, boating, camping and swimming.
