Responsibilities

What you’ll be doing…

 

The Y is seeking a dedicated individual for the position of Foster Home Developer and Trainer. You will assist in recruitment, orientation and training of foster parents.  You will ensure all foster parents meet or exceed the program standard of care model and provide ongoing support and monitor foster parent performance.

PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES

 

  • Assists Foster Home Licensor with recruiting, screening, and assessing potential traditional and treatment foster parent applicants.
  • Assists Foster Home Licensor with completing initial orientation and training of new foster parents during and after the licensing process.
  • Provides ongoing training, mentorship, and support to ensure foster parents understand, meet, and exceed the Y’s foster care model and standards of care.
  • Provides foster parents with technical assistance regarding paperwork/documentation requirements and program requirements.
  • Assists foster parents in preparing for foster care rate assessments and developing exceptional cost plans for foster youth transitioning to Long Term or Extended Foster Care.
  • Supports foster parents through any DSHS inquiries and investigations.
  • Assists Foster Home Licensor and/or Permanency Program Manager with coordinating ongoing training for the foster care program and clinical staff.
  • Assists with planning and coordinating annual foster parent retreat, foster parent picnic, foster parent appreciation luncheon, foster parent business meetings, and other special events.
  • Builds a cohesive, effective team of high quality professional foster parents with allegiance to the program and its mission.
  • Supports the recovery model in helping foster parent’s partner with their teams, focus on strengths and gain client voice in their own treatment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

You should have:

  • High school diploma or high school equivalency course of study (GED/HSEC) required. Bachelor’s degree in social work, social services, or a closely related field from an accredited school preferred.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age. (WAC388-147-1475, DSHS/DLR requirement)
  • Knowledge of relevant Washington Administrative Codes (WACs).
  • 3 years experience as a Licensed Foster Parent, preferably providing therapeutic level of care.
  • 1-2 years experience providing training, coaching, and peer mentorship/support.
  • Ability to work in a team management approach.
  • Current state approved CPR/First Aid certifications required within 30 days of hire
  • Ability to visit current and prospective foster homes. (Proof of adequate vehicle insurance may be required.)
