At JANE ADDAMS MIDDLE SCHOOL, Y team members are highly visible, highly motivated staff who are experinced and well versed in working with teens, specifically middle school students. You must have a proven track record in youth development, program manangement or program development to take on the role of Program Asstitant at Jane Addams Middle school. This team is creative, innovative, goal driven and develop services and programs that are grant funded and contract driven.

This PART TIME position is located at Jane Addams Middle School

Responsibilities

The Program Assistant position requires someone who can

 

  1. Facilitate Black Student Union meetings with about 20 students and help them host a Black History Month assembly, multicultural family night and a professional development presentation for teachers
  2. Drive a Y Mini Bus or become certified to drive a Y Mini Bus to transport program participants to off-site locations
  3. Facilitate creative art activities educational activities that help teens understand adolescent development
  4. Develop and promote YMCA events and activities, ensure the organization is highly visible and has a strong presence during school day activities
  5. Teach leadership development, academic support, and study skills to middle school students

 

Skills required to do this position include, but are not limited to

  • Strong youth engagement skills
  • Can play, engage and participate in recreation based games and activities
  • Extroversion- outgoing personality, can confidently approach and engage ALL students in fun activities and support of youth goals
  • Creativity – can create exciting flyer's, posters and program materials
  • Understands adolescent development – must be able to develop fun activities focused on teaching youth about adolescent development
  • Ability to teach students developmentally appropriate skills
  • Project and event planning
  • Time management and focus on meeting deadlines
  • Strong community outreach skills
  • Strong database building and management skills
  • Experienced with managing a high level of autonomy and can take directives as needed
  • FUNDRAISING

 

Typical week includes the following schedule:

Monday/ Tuesday / Thursday (Friday Optional)

  • BSU Meetings 8:40am – 9:30am                   
  • Community Outreach 9:45am- 11:15am       
  • Youth Activities during lunch 11:15am-12:54pm              

Wednesday

  • Youth Activities during lunch 11:15am- 12:54pm 
  • Community Outreach and Program Prep 1:30pm -2:30pm
  • After School Program Activity 2:45pm- 5:45pm

Qualifications

You are 21 years of age or older and should have:

  • Two years or more of experience working with children; camps, child care, tutoring, nanny, etc.
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Have completed thirty college credits in approved school-age credits as specified in the Washington state guidelines for determining related degree and approved credits, or twenty college credits and one hundred clock hours of related community training.
  • Ability to model and demonstrate Y values; caring, respect, responsibility and honesty.
  • Experience planning and implementing group activities.
