GENERAL FUNCTION

Instructs Yoga Sculpt classes.  Understands the Health Seeker target market and provides coaching, class instruction and support to members participating in ongoing YMCA Healthy Living programs.

Responsibilities

  1. Plans and instructs Yoga classes or programs. Observes and discusses individual progress with participants

  2. Develops positive relationships with participants and facilitates relationship building among participants and members.  Provides motivational support and guidance.

  3. Increases participant awareness of all healthy lifestyle factors.

  4. Encourages member and parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.

  5. Attends staff meetings and approved trainings as required.

  6. Sets up and takes down class equipment.  Reports equipment problems.

  7. Ensures safe and effective classes.  Responds to, and reports, accidents and incidents.

  8. Conveys basic knowledge of all Y Healthy Living programs.

  9. Tracks, monitors, evaluates and transitions assigned Healthy Living participants

  10. Accurately maintains related records.

Qualifications

  1. Current state approved first aid certification.

  2. Current state approved CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification.

  3. Two years or more of college education in a related field or equivalent preferred.

  4. One or more years of related experience preferred.

  5. YMCA Healthy Lifestyles Principles certification*

  6. Listen First Level I* and II** training

  7. Building Community in Small Groups training***

  8. Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.

  9. Working knowledge of preventative health and fitness programs and philosophy

  10. Prefer knowledge of and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.). Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful. 

    Must attend and receive passing grade in YMCA of the USA training courses related to program delivery (i.e. Healthy Lifestyles Principles, Foundations of Group Exercise, and specialty course.

*       Within 30 days of employment or first available training.

**     Within 90 days of employment or first available training.

***   Within 18-24 months of employment.
