Where you’ll work…

 

At Cascade Middle School, located in the heart of Auburn.  You will be working directly with middle school students, teachers and other YMCA staff to provide an enrichment program activity you have constructed and homework assistance in Study Hub.  The offerings are provided after school from 2:00 - 5:00 pm Monday thru Friday.  We are looking for energetic, outgoing and creative people to help provide the most amazing and lively Community Learning Center possible.  

 

As a member of the Auburn Valley YMCA team, you will have access to  the offerings and amenities of the branch as well as those within the other Y's of the greater Seattle area.

Responsibilities

What you’ll be doing…

 

As the Community Learning Program Instructor you will be planning, implementing and developing academic curriculum activities for groups of youth. Working on a team of educators and YMCA staff to help determine the academic and enrichment focus of your classes. You will co-lead Small Group classes consisting of enrichment activities that focus on relationship building, leadership and fun.

 

Principle Activities:

  • Developing and implementing appropriate enrichment classes for assigned grade levels.
  • Preparing classrooms for daily activities and collaborating with academic teachers and teacher’s assistants to ensure that objectives are reached.
  • Adhering to all YMCA and school district professional expectations and compliance issues.
  • Creating a positive, achievement-oriented, organized and engaging learning environment.
  • Communicates with, develops, and maintains positive relationships with youth and families.
  • Provides day-to-day leadership to staff and volunteers.

You have a track record of being able to develop and implement quality programming and know how to provide support and a sense of belonging to others.

Qualifications

You should be 18 years of age and have:

  1. Current state approved first-aid certification. *
  2. Current state approved community CPR certification. *
  3. Experience in working with youth the same age as those to be supervised.
  4. One year of experience or more in program planning preferred.
  5. Knowledge of culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate practices.
  6. Knowledge of Seattle School District Academic Learning Standards for the age group and designated subject area.
  7. Knowledge of core curriculum components of assigned school.
