This vacancy is a great opportunity to be a part of a team involved in providing inclusive, safe and caring environments, positive role models, creative activities and opportunities to serve the needs of others - all which are the essential building blocks for strong kids, strong families, and strong communities. Provides swimming instructions to swim team members in Age group, Senior, or Master's programs.



Organizes and conducts team workouts.


This position is working Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30-6:30pm and Saturays from 9-10am.


  1. Organizes and administers all assigned coaching responsibilities, including practices, recruiting, record keeping and scheduling.
  2. Develops positive relationships with team members and provides motivational support and guidance.
  3. Increases team member awareness of all healthy lifestyle factors and YMCA values.
  4. Recruits prospective members and provides information about YMCA membership and swim team fee structure.
  5. Attends staff meetings and trainings as required.
  6. Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
  7. Encourages member and parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
  8. Conveys basic knowledge of all program areas to members and participants and as appropriate refers members to Total Health program or staff member.
  9. May assist with total health orientation.


  1. 18 years of age or older.
  2. Current state approved first-aid certification.*
  3. Current state approved community CPR certification, or equivalent.*
  4. American Red Cross Coaches Safety Training or equivalent.*
  5. One year or more of swim team experience preferred.
  6. Ability to teach proper competitive swimming techniques.
  7. Demonstrated knowledge of sound competitive swimming skills, and the ability to implement and teach these skills in a positive, healthy manner.
  8. Knowledge of basic exercise.
  9. Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.). Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.

*       Within 30 days of employment, or at first available training.
