This vacancy is a great opportunity to be a part of a team involved in providing inclusive, safe and caring environments, positive role models, creative activities and opportunities to serve the needs of others - all which are the essential building blocks for strong kids, strong families, and strong communities.



Supports low-income youth and young adults who may have experience in foster care, homelessness, disconnection from school, juvenile justice and/or other systems in developing the skills to live independently. Provides onsite oversight and support Friday and Saturday Nights 7:00pm to 7:00am at the Young Adults in Transitions (YAIT) Program located in the Downtown Seattle YMCA. Works independently but also as a part of a team of staff to provide collaborative quality services and support to residents and the YAIT program. Ensures the safety of all residents and the building.



    1. Provides OVERNIGHT coverage for the Young Adults in Transitions (YAIT) program.
    2. Supports the unit turnover process including cleaning and preparing units for new residents.
    3. Provides specialized services to youth and young adults in education, employment/career development, housing, technology, or other designated field and supports them in achieving their goals.
    4. Build and maintain strong relationships with YMCA program participants to effectively provide quality services.
    5. Ensures residents are following the program rules and regulations
    6. Ensures safety of residents and building
    7. Supports residents individualized, strengths-based, youth-driven service plans and their success in key domains such as safe and stable housing, permanent connections to supportive adults, education and employment, health and well-being, and life skills.
    8. Must understand contract/grant terms and conditions to ensure program outcome requirements are met and services rendered to young adults appropriately.
    9. Researches best practices in field; creates and maintains specialized resource libraries.
    10. Maintains clear, professional, timely entry of participant contact notes, service plans, progress updates, outcomes, and other documentation in designated databases.
    11. Teaches life skills or other subject matter individually to residents, often experientially.
    12. Teams effectively and collaboratively with YMCA Maintenance and YAIT staff to plan, facilitate and address maintenance requests and issues.
    13. Assist with program coordination, administrative tasks, data entry or other activities related to the contract and/or program.
    14. Participates in YMCA annual fundraising campaign to engage community members in volunteerism and philanthropic support for the Y mission.  
    15. Other duties as created and required for program enhancement.


  1. Associate's degree or equivalent experience, Bachelor's preferred.
  2. Minimum one year of experience working with teens or young adults in foster care, group care, housing, education, juvenile justice, anti-poverty, vocational support, mental health, chemical dependency and/or homelessness fields.
  3. Ability to teach effective independence skills for a variety of learning styles and to plan supportive activities.
  4. Strong youth engagement and relationship-building skills.
  5. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  6. Basic computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  7. Ability to transport self and client(s) in a safe and effective manner, and to meet clients at community locations; proof of adequate vehicle insurance coverage is required, or ability to travel to areas without public transportation.
  8. Current state approved First Aid and CPR certification.*
  9. Current approved HIV blood borne pathogens training.*
  10. Prefer knowledge of and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.). Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.

*       Within 30 days of employment or first available training.
