GENERAL FUNCTION

YMCA Powerful Schools is growing and we are looking to expand our roster of Speciality Enrichment Instructors! If you have a skill or talent that you would like to share with youth ages 4-12, let us know. We are looking for instructors to teach 7-10 week sessions in the following areas. . .

 

**Teaching certificate is not required.**

  • Arts (dance, movement, spoken word, writing, theater, crafts, painting, etc.)
  • STE(A)M- Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math
  • Large motor activities- sports, group games, yoga, etc.
  • Debate
  • Culture & Celebration of Diversity
  • Civic engagement

 

Ideal candidates for this role will have demonstrated an ability to effectively teach their craft to a group of elementary age children. (Groups are split, K-2 grade and 3-5th grade.) This includes lesson planning, implementation, and at times, evaluation. This person should also have experience managing group behavior and supporting student learning through a growth mindset lens. Must be able to adapt lesson plans and teaching style to meet the needs of culturally and ethnically diverse communities.

 

After school programs are offered at multiple school sites, mostly in southeast Seattle, Monday-Thursday. The Winter session will begin January 16th and end March 17th. Spring session will begin April 3 and end May 26th. Summer sessions are also available. Classes must have a minimum enrollment of at least 10 students and cap out at 15 students. Specialty Enrichment Instructor schedules will fluctuate from session to session depending on enrollment and demand.

**Bachelor's Degree is NOT required.**

**Three years experience is NOT required.**

 

 

 

Responsibilities

  1. Prepares for and provides training and/or instruction.
  2. Implements curriculum, evaluates successful completion and maintains participant records.
  3. Provides assessment of participant's achievement of class outcomes.
  4. Collaborates on curriculum design and developing new training models.
  5. May provide guidance to training team. Provides support through discussion and role modeling.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree in related subject area. Teaching certificate may be required.
  2. Three or more years experience in teaching adults and/or youth.
  3. Knowledge of innovative delivery techniques.
  4. Ability to travel to various locations.
  5. Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.). Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.
