Job Summary

The Lead Teacher, Early Learning Seattle Preschool Program is responsible for leadership in a Seattle Preschool Program, managing the activities and curriculum for the classroom and supervising a group of children.

Hiring Range: $24.00-$25.20/hour

 

 

Responsibilities

  1. Plans and implements culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate activities within the curriculum in accordance with the Youth Development goals of the YMCA. Ultimately responsible for the quality and completion of all classroom plans, including lesson, behavior and event plans.
  2. Supervises a group of children to ensure their health and safety, and to provide for a positive experience for each child.
  3. Provides guidance to staff/volunteers overseeing the activities of groups of children.
  4. Assists in meeting the contract requirements, deadlines, and deliverables of the program associated with the City of Seattle contracts.
  5. Professionally communicates day-to-day, confidential and evaluative information with parents/guardians including child-based assessments, individual parent communication, and parent/teacher conferences.
  6. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergency procedures.
  7. Maintains a developmentally appropriate classroom including, appearance, décor, and cleanliness of site.
  8. Attends staff meetings and trainings as required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This job operates in a classroom environment.  This role routinely uses standard office equipment.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.  The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.  This position requires the ability to occasionally lift classroom supplies, up to 20 pounds.

 

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is a full-time position, and days of work are Monday through Friday, 8 hours a day between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.  Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

 

TRAVEL

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.

Code of Conduct for Applicants

Qualifications

  1. 21 years of age or older.
  2. Two (2) years or more of experience working in a classroom environment with children kindergarten aged and younger.
  3. Prefer candidate with supervisory experience or that has provided coaching / support to other staff.
  4. Prefer candidate will have a bachelor’s degree (BA) in Early Childhood Education (ECE) and/or a P-3 Teaching Endorsement. Other applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position will be considered.
  5. Candidate must have a bachelor’s degree or at least 30 hours of ECE college credits.
  6. Current state approved a first-aid certification.*
  7. Current state approved infant/child (or community if school aged) CPR certification.*
  8. TB test by Mantoux method.**
  9. HIV/AIDS training certification.*
  10. Completion of minimum STARS required training.***

Prefer knowledge of and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.). Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.
