Job Summary

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

 

The Senior Director - Operations stewards the Y’s cause, promoting and protecting the brand and reputation as a global, inclusive organization within the community. The Senior Director - Operations oversees the operation of the Y and participates in volunteer and staff development, financial development, and collaboration with community stakeholders.

 

The Senior Director - Operations is responsible for the successful management of the day-to-day operations at the assigned YMCA Branch. The position is also responsible for membership engagement, program delivery, fiscal management, financial development, branch advisory council support, community outreach, and diversity, inclusion, and equity culture building for the service area in conjunction with the District Executive and Centers of Excellence.

Hiring Range: $79,216 - 95,000/annually 

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Serves as the primary operations lead for the branch as well as being the point of contact and leadership decision maker when the Sr. Branch Executive is out of the branch.
  2. Serves as the direct supervisor for assigned departments heads in home branch.
  3. Provides leadership and direction to assigned department heads by coaching and providing overall direction, performance management, and development.
  4. Supports and manages the budgeting process so that resources are devoted to top priorities and strategic objectives for a department as well as supports the budget process for other departments. Ensures departmental operating budget meets or exceeds targets.
  5. Supports the Sr. Branch Executive in financial development activities of the branch and leads staff campaign.
  6. Coaches, supports and ensures branch leadership teams recruit their target campaigners for AFD community campaign.
  7. Builds bridges within the community so that all segments of society have access to the Y.
  8. When appropriate, represents and promotes the Y in the local communities and develops positive, effective working relationships with branch advisory council, community organizations, school district, businesses and governmental agencies in service delivery areas.
  9. Effectively communicates community benefit and the Y’s impact for all stakeholders (e.g., staff, volunteers, members, and community leaders) develops positive working and collaborative relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental entities.
  10. Supports the Sr. Branch Executive in branch advisory board development and serves as the staff lead of at least one board committee.
  11. Supports the Sr. Branch Executive in branch strategic planning efforts and develops the annual operating plan of the branch.
  12. Fosters a climate of innovation to develop member-focused programs which support the Y mission, goals, and strategies.
  13. Oversees program delivery at branch to assure high quality results, which support branch, district and association mission, goals and strategies.
  14. Ensures the safety and maintenance of high-quality facilities, grounds, and equipment.
  15. Partners with Centers of Excellence, Sr. Branch Executive and District Executive to ensure consistent safety and high quality of programs in areas including marketing, facility maintenance, and health.
  16. Serves as a member of assigned Association, branch groups and committees to supports the overall objectives of the Association.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are dependent on business needs. May include mornings, evening, and weekends at times.

 

TRAVEL

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.

Qualifications

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  1. Bachelor's degree or equivalent education/experience in business administration, human services or related field. Other applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position will be considered.
  2. Five years or more of related experience in staff and volunteer supervision, progam development, and budget management and planning.
  3. Must be highly organized, able to work independently and have an ability to work under pressure to coordinate multiple requests and meet competing deadlines. Strong project management skills.
  4. Deliver high level of customer service to internal and external customers.
  5. Excellent computer skills and experience with Microsoft Suite (excel, word, outlook, teams)

 

PREFERRED EDUACTION AND EXPERIENCE

    1. YMCA Multi-Team certification
    2. Prefer knowedlge of, and previous experience in, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.). 
    3. Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.
