Job Summary

The Y is seeking a dedicated individual for the position of Behavior Specialist on the Crisis Outreach Response System – Developmental Disabilities (CORS-DD) team. You will provide support for children, youth and their families in the YMCA Family Services and Mental Health Program. The Behavior Specialist works closely with Treatment Team members providing clinical support to youth and families within the program.  Behavior Specialists also work to provide support to youth and families in school, home, and community environments.   

This position is at the Social Impact Center Y, the social services branch of YMCA of Greater Seattle (YGS). The mission of the Social Impact Center Y is to accelerate young people’s ability to build safe, successful, and happy lives. Every year, we serve 5,000 children, youth, young adults, and families across King County with programs that aim to strengthen young people’s ability to develop to their fullest potential through four strategies: reducing risk factors; navigating systems towards successful life transition; ensuring stability, safety and wellness in times of crisis; and building competencies and social capital. The Social Impact Center Y’s programs include housing, behavioral health, foster care licensing, violence prevention, education, and employment. Many of the young people we serve have had involvement in the foster care, criminal justice system, and/or homelessness systems.

Hiring Range: $22.00 – $24.20/hr

• Supervises clients in home environment. Makes decisions to intervene or redirect if necessary.
• Makes immediate oral reports and follows up with written reports of visitation services (includes reports and billing logs).
• Supervises clients in social and recreational experiences, and provides respite to Caregivers.
• Develops and facilitates life skill and coping skill curriculum for youth living with Developmental Disabilities.
• Provides behavior management for youth in home, school, and community settings.
• Helps coach staff within Seattle YMCA branches on behavior management techniques and youth engagement in programs.
• Works therapeutically with clients and their parents on prescribed treatment goals.
• Facilitates service learning opportunities with youth living with Developmental Disabilities.
• Provides direct client support in emergent and crisis situations for youth on their caseload.
• Ensures clients are transported on-time and safely as it pertains to supporting stabilization and treatment goals.
• Reports all critical incidents in accordance with YMCA Incident Reporting Policy & Procedures.
• Meets weekly and as assigned for clinical supervision and training.
• Adheres to YMCA program rules and procedures.
• Other duties as assigned.

Code of Conduct for Applicants

• Must be at least 21 years of age OR may be between 18 and 21 years of age if enrolled in a social service internship or practicum program with an accredited college or university and can provide sufficient documentation.
• High school diploma or high school equivalency course of study (GED/HSEC) with 2 years of directly relevant experience working with children, youth, and families required.
• Washington State Agency Affiliated Counselor Certification***
• Have the skills and ability to work successfully and meet the special needs of children living with Developmental Disabilities.
• Ability to transport self and client(s) in a safe and effective manner, and to meet clients at their home or school. Access to working vehicle and proof of adequate vehicle insurance coverage is required.
• Intermediate proficiency with computers, basic Microsoft Office software and case management/client tracking software.
• Experience tracking and summarizing data into reports.
• Strong organizational and communication skills with attention to details, timelines and follow-through.
• Current state approved first aid, CPR and HIV/AIDS training certification.*
• TB test by the Mantoux method. **

This safety-sensitive role requires transporting clients as “authorized drivers” for the Y using your vehicle. Potential offers will be contingent upon meeting the following conditions: Being 25+, having a valid driver's license for at least three years and possessing a driving record that meets Y standards  (no more than two moving violations within the last three years, no significant incidents such as reckless driving, DUI/DWI, no tickets 20+ miles above the speed limit etc. within 5 years). and proof of current auto insurance; minimum recommended coverage limits are $300,000 per incident, and current vehicle registration is required. You must also pass a drug screen that will test for impairing substances, including marijuana. 

Additional Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, related field, or equivalent, OR Associates degree with one year of directly relevant experience working with children, youth, and families preferred. Other applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position will be considered.
• Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical activity, sexual orientation, etc.). Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.
