- Be 21 years of age or older.
- Ability to obtain certification as a Lifeguard Instructor, Swim Instructor Trainer and Child Abuse Prevention Trainer once hired.
- Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness, including ability to lift equipment and small to average sized children
- Must be observant and able to react calmly, quickly, and with good judgment in an emergency.
- Demonstrated ability to assist children and others in the development of swimming skills
- At least two years’ experience and knowledge in aquatics including demonstrated ability to teach different levels of swimming.
Preferred Qualifications
- Valid Lifeguard certification from YMCA of the USA or American Red Cross with Basic Life Support, First Aid and Emergency Oxygen*
- Y Lifeguard Instructor Certification or equivalent**
- Two to three years of supervisory experience preferred.
- Knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.). Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.
*Within 30 days of employment or at first available training. If Red Cross certified, must complete Y Lifeguard Certification class within 90 days of hire.
