Job Summary

Provides Karate specialized services to members.

Minimum compensation: $20.05 - 24.56/hour

 

 

Responsibilities

  1. Plans and instructs classes or programs in a specialty area. Observes and discusses individual progress with participants.
  2. Develops positive relationships with participants and facilitates relationship building among participants and members. Provides motivational support and guidance.
  3. Increases participant awareness of all healthy lifestyle factors.
  4. Encourages member and parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
  5. Attends staff meetings and approved trainings as required.
  6. Sets up and takes down class equipment. Reports equipment problems.
  7. Ensures safe and effective classes. Responds to, and reports, accidents and incidents.
  8. Conveys basic knowledge of all Y Total Health/Activate America programs.
  9. Tracks, monitors, evaluates and transitions assigned Total Health participants providing motivational support and counseling.
  10. Accurately maintains related records. Leads ongoing YMCA Total Health classes or programs in a specialized area.

Code of Conduct for Applicants

Qualifications

  1. Current state approved first aid certification.*
  2. Current state approved CPR certification.
  3. High school education or equivalent preferred. Other applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position will be considered.
  4. Two or more years experience teaching or practicing in specialized area.
  5. Total Service/Total Health Training**
  6. Ability to lead a class or provide individual service.
  7. Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
  8. Ability to motivate and educate members.
  9. Ability to set up, move and store equipment.
  10. Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.). Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.
  11. Martial Arts / Karate: Black belt, trainer and member of Washington Karate Association.

*       Within 30 days of employment or first available training.
