Job Summary

*This is an on-site position

Organizes and conducts team workouts. May supervise other coaches as assigned. Acts as a liaison and champion for YMCA Total Health.

Hiring Range: $22/hour - $24.20/hour DOE for 18 years or older; $19.97/hour for anyone under 18. 

 

 

Responsibilities

  1. Organizes and administers all assigned coaching responsibilities, including daily practices, recruiting, record keeping and scheduling.
  2. Develops positive relationships with team members and provides motivational support and guidance.
  3. Increases team member awareness of all healthy lifestyle factors and YMCA values.
  4. May supervise assistant coaches.
  5. Recruits prospective members and provides information about YMCA membership and swim team fee structure.
  6. Attends staff meetings and trainings as required.
  7. Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
  8. Attends swim meets and swim team functions as agreed upon with supervisor. Accountable for discipline and conduct of team members at these events.
  9. Encourages member and parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
  10. Conveys basic knowledge of all program areas to members and participants and as appropriate refers members to Total Health program or staff member.
  11. May assist with total health orientation.

Code of Conduct for Applicants

Qualifications

  1. 18 years of age or older.
  2. Ability to teach proper competitive swimming techniques.
  3. Demonstrated knowledge of sound competitive swimming skills, and the ability to implement and teach these skills in a positive, healthy manner.
  4. Knowledge of basic exercise.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. One year or more of swim team experience.
  2. Current state approved first-aid certification.*
  3. Current state approved community CPR certification, or equivalent.*
  4. American Red Cross Coaches Safety Training or equivalent.*
  5. Knowledge of and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.).
  6. Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful. 

*       Within 30 days of employment, or at first available training.

 

Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.

Expected Hours of Work: Branch operational hours that may include mornings, evenings, and weekends dependent on swim practice and swim meet schedules.
