Job Summary

Provides comprehensive, short-term crisis outreach services to children and families in King County with children experiencing a mental health or behavioral emergency. On an established rotation and as a part of a team, serves client families 24 hours per day, seven days per week, 365 days per year in all parts of King County. Stabilizes the initial crisis, provides intensive support and links the family to ongoing formal and informal support systems.

 

This position is at the Social Impact Center Y, the social services branch of YMCA of Greater Seattle (YGS). The mission of the Social Impact Center Y is to accelerate young people’s ability to build safe, successful, and happy lives. Every year, we serve 5,000 children, youth, young adults, and families across King County with programs that aim to strengthen young people’s ability to develop to their fullest potential through four strategies: reducing risk factors; navigating systems towards successful life transition; ensuring stability, safety and wellness in times of crisis; and building competencies and social capital. The Social Impact Center Y’s programs include housing, behavioral health, foster care licensing, violence prevention, education, and employment. Many of the young people we serve have had involvement in the foster care, criminal justice system, and/or homelessness systems.

Hiring Range: $67,724.80 - $72,072/yr

Responsibilities

  1. Provides immediate, short term, acute crisis intervention services to families in King County to prevent out of home care and psychiatric hospitalization for children and youth. As part of a team, serve client families 24 hours per day, seven days per week, 365 days per year in all parts of King County.
  2. Provides services in the homes, schools and other community locations of families served. Meets with each family and child with appropriate urgency, intensity and frequency for the crisis situation - generally multiple times and hours per week.
  3. Provides short-term individual and family stabilization services and resource linkage, including risk assessments, safety planning, parenting skills training, behavior management, de-escalation training and brief counseling.
  4. Develops and implements care plans and safety plans sensitive to the family's cultural, social and mental health needs.
  5. Assists families in articulating personal goals for recovery, setting action plans to reach their goals, and taking initial steps on their plans.
  6. Documents family strengths, problem areas, recovery goals, objectives, interventions, and progress using case management software and approved documentation formats within established time lines.
  7. Teaches families how to facilitate their own recovery, access community resources, and use effective problem solving techniques.
  8. Helps families identify and engage natural and community supports conducive to recovery.
  9. Helps families build their own child & family team for wraparound support. Attends treatment team meetings to promote family use of self-directed recovery tools using the principles and values of Wraparound.
  10. Maintains a working knowledge of current trends and developments in the mental health field through continuing education and reading relevant materials.
  11. Reports all critical incidents and adheres to YMCA program policies and procedures.
  12. Participates actively in annual YMCA fundraising campaign by sharing the impact of YMCA programs and soliciting funds to support services to people in need.

Qualifications

  1. Masters degree in social work, counseling or related field. Other applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position will be considered.
  2. One or more year post-graduate experience providing short-term mental health services to youth and families from a broad range of cultures and social needs.
  3. Registered counselor in Washington.
  4. Training and experience in individual, family, and group treatment modalities.
  5. Ability to work in a team management approach.
  6. Strong organizational skills with an attention to details, timelines and follow-through.
  7. Ability to meet with clients at home and in the community, and to transport clients in a safe and effective manner. (Proof of adequate vehicle insurance is required.)
  8. Ability to maintain a flexible schedule and work evenings and weekends.
  9. Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical activity, sexual orientation, etc.). Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful

This safety-sensitive role requires transporting clients as “authorized drivers” for the Y using your vehicle. Potential offers will be contingent upon meeting the following conditions: Being 25+, having a valid driver's license for at least three years and possessing a driving record that meets Y standards  (no more than two moving violations within the last three years, no significant incidents such as reckless driving, DUI/DWI, no tickets 20+ miles above the speed limit etc. within 5 years). and proof of current auto insurance; minimum recommended coverage limits are $300,000 per incident, and current vehicle registration is required. You must also pass a drug screen that will test for impairing substances, including marijuana.
