Job Summary

We are looking for trustworthy leaders who want to make positive connections with our members and program participants. You need to have a keen eye for safety and set the tone for a safe environment for kids and families. You will play a key role in ensuring safety standards are met – in the water and on the deck, serving as first responder in emergencies, maintaining safety equipment, and serving on an engaged and dynamic Aquatics team.

Responsibilities

  1. Maintains safe swimming conditions in the pool, on deck and surrounding areas. Prevents accidents by maintaining constant observation of the pool area, enforcing health and safety rules and maintaining emergency readiness.  May perform duties related to opening or closing the pool.
  2. Develops positive relationships with participants and parents.
  3. Attends staff meetings and trainings as required.
  4. Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures, and the “safe-in-six” model. Completes related reports as required.
  5. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
  6. Performs chemical testing when not guarding , as required, and takes appropriate action.
  7. Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
  8. Performs routine maintenance of the pool and surrounding areas to ensure cleanliness.
  9. Checks pool and rescue equipment and promptly reports any problems.
  10. Sets up and stores equipment for recreational swims and assists instructors with set up.
  11. Maintains aquatic program areas and equipment with a high attention to cleanliness and safety.
  12. Encourages member and parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
  13. Conveys basic information on YMCA programs and schedules to members and, as appropriate, refers members to other YMCA programs and/or staff.
  14. Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

You are 18 years of age or older and have:

  1. 6 months+ of lifeguarding experience.
  2. Current state approved first-aid certification. *
  3. Current state approved CPR certification – Pro or Basic Life Support. *
  4. Lifeguard certification – YMCA or Red Cross. *
  5. YMCA of Greater Seattle scanning training or equivalent*
  6. Other applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position will be considered.

  7. Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness.
  8. Must be observant and able to react calmly, quickly and with good judgment in an emergency.
  9. Prefer knowledge of and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.). Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.

*YGS is currently offering a "New Hire $600 Sign-On Cash Incentive"!
As of October 6th new Full-time and Part-time employees will receive a $600 bonus, which will be paid in one lump sum, after working 120 hours.
