As of October 6th new Full-time and Part-time employees will receive a $600 bonus, which will be paid in one lump sum, after working 120 hours.

Job Summary

Lead and instruct a variety of sports, recreation, and enrichment programs. Programming area includes but is not limited to Rock Climbing, Odyssey Course, Youth Sports, and Enrichment Classes.


YMCA of Greater Seattle will comply with all WA state mandates regarding COVID vaccinations. All YGS staff are required to be fully vaccinated for COVID regardless of work location. Religious and Medical Exemptions will be considered at time of hire.


  1. Plans and implements program activities which may include specialized programming such as climbing, outdoor environmental education, teen leadership, sports, etc.
  2. Pre/Post inspection of challenge courses, equipment and surrounding areas.
  3. Proactively report equipment and supply needs to management.
  4. Responsible for instructing, training and coaching individuals and groups to ensure physical, mental and emotional safety.
  5. Must be able to communicate instructions and information in a developmentally appropriate manner.
  6. Oversee, train, schedule and debrief Belayers to ensure continuous coaching and development.
  7. Facilitate initial and annual refresher training for challenge course Belayers and support staff.
  8. Timely recordkeeping and reporting to management, as required.


  1. Must be 18 years of age or older.
  2. High school diploma or equivalent, post-secondary education in related field strongly preferred. Other applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position will be considered.
  3. Previous successful experience engaging children and teens in group activities.
  4. Current state approved first-aid certification by start date.
  5. Current state approved CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification by start date.
  6. Knowledge of culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate practices.


21 years of age or older. Current Driver’s License with a minimum of 3 years safe driving experience and a driving record which meets or exceeds YMCA standards.
Maximum of one minor violation.



  • One year+ previous experience with children and families from diverse backgrounds.
  • 6 months+ experience teaching specified activity/skill hired for.
  • Program lesson planning and instructional skills.  
  • Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.).
  • Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.
